Joel Vestal interviews and talks with Basim, a native of Saudi Arabia and engineer student, about working together to help the refugee and immigrant community in Indianapolis.
There is a community of refugees in a different part of the city who have invited us to come and help them with an English club and mentor kids in their homework. There are many Syrian, Somali, African, and Burmese families.
We believe there is power when people from different faiths can come together and do something good for the refugee community.
If you live in Indianapolis and want to help us, please contact us. If you are an International student, you need a volunteer opportunity. Migros Aid Indy will provide a certificate upon completion of your volunteer service for your resume in the future.

In 1621 native Americans & “pilgrims” from England, seeking religious freedom, shared a meal together that began Thanksgiving. With Chicken, rice/dhal, apples, and breads, a first Thanksgiving was experienced in 2016 with new Americans. As the story was told about the history of Thanksgiving, it was a great evening. These modern-day “pilgrims” are seeking peace, religious freedom, and a new life. They come from Iraq, Afghanistan, Congo, Rwanda. It was a beautiful meal and a little English lesson on asking each other what we are grateful for!
