BRIEF SUMMARY OF MIGROS AID in 2024.
Thank you to everyone who served with us and helped our impact grow this year. Migros Aid works in four areas: Aid, Training, Service, and Empowerment.
AID GIVEN IN 2024
- Provided $50 food gift cards to 100 families
- Rental assistance of $500 to 10 families
- 100+ refugee families provided holiday gift baskets
- Provided misc aid to 175+ families in clothing, furniture, winter coats, and food
- Laundry Quarters & Drying Racks for 40+ refugee families
- Assisted with temporary housing for two refugee sisters experiencing homelessness
- Provided funeral & burial expenses for a refugee teen boy
- 200 glasses were distributed to the refugee community to view the Eclipse
- 30+ church chairs to Karen refugee church
- 210+ Backpacks & school supplies distributed for refugee students from 15+ countries returning to school
- 650+ children’s books distributed to refugee kids to encourage reading
- 1,100+ LBS of produce from our garden given to 50+ refugee families for free
TRAINING OFFERED IN 2024
- Migros 101 met 4 times with 11 people in attendance to be trained as new volunteers
- 6 Cross-Cultural Immersion spiritual retreats with 58 people attending.
- Sponsored two Christian conferences for the Banyamulenge refugee community
SERVICE in 2024
- 115+ volunteers served throughout the year
- 44 total tutors in 2024; an average of 12 tutors serve weekly
- 3 Church groups served at our garden
- 55+ Volunteers served @ CARE Club throughout the year
- 30+ people serve weekly (Tues or Thurs nights) from 15+ local churches
- 25+ Migros Mentors who help and encourage refugees on an ongoing basis
EMPOWERMENT IN 2024
- Care Club has met 23 times so far in 2024.
- Migros Aid Academy (tutoring) – met 33 times (42 students, 17 who come consistently)
- Concluded Champions: I am a Leader and met 10 times, concluding in March ‘24 with special guest, Zaiver Scott (Colts Running back)
- 93 refugees participated in 19-day trips over the summer to places like Indy Zoo, Eagle Creek Park, and Indianapolis Children’s Museum
- 13 students attended youth camp with a local church
- Community Garden provided mentoring work opportunities for 20+
- Migros Mentors meet and help offer support to 25+ refugee families
- Provided vocational training to refugee teens through cleaning & general labor
- Sponsored the launch of a new Banyamulenge refugee church in the city: Hope of Life Church and a conference for 50+ participants from 5 states
- 4 IGRO groups met for spiritual formation/Bible Study (23+ people meeting 18 times total)
