As kids started back to school in early August, 58 of them were smiling and proud of their new backpacks, ready for a new school year. Thank you to all you who put backpacks together and supported this effort.
It can be overwhelming for immigrant families who have many kids at the start of a new school year. Many do not have backpacks and needed school supplies.
One student said, “I don’t think I can go to school on Monday because I don’t have a school bag. The one I had broke last year.”
She was all smiles when she got one filled with supplies! Although she has been in America three years, their family still struggles. She has four other siblings and her cousins, also refugees, just moved to Indianapolis from another state and live with them.
