Sometimes one connection can lead to an incredible opportunity to serve.

With help from a local food pantry, Migros Aid connected with Walmart, which generously donated two full pallets—84 cases, or 840 whole chickens—to help refugee and immigrant families in our community.

As many refugee families have lost food assistance and are facing increasing pressure to put food on the table, this donation came at an important time.

Through our network of refugee churches, community leaders, and partners across the city, we were able to pick up and begin distributing the chickens directly into the communities we serve.

And the impact will go beyond this week.

For many families, several whole chickens in the freezer means meat for meals for weeks or even months. Some of our partners are also helping store and freeze part of the donation so that it can continue to be distributed to families in need over the coming months.

This is what community partnership can look like:

A local food pantry makes a connection.
Walmart makes a generous donation.
Community partners provide freezer space.
Refugee churches and leaders help identify and reach families.
And 840 chickens become thousands of meals around family tables.

We are incredibly grateful to Walmart, the food pantry that helped make the connection, and every partner helping us get this food where it is needed most.

Sometimes meeting a very real need starts with something as simple as filling a family’s freezer.
